About Daniel:

Daniel Elihu Kramer is a director, an artistic and academic leader, a writer, and a filmmaker.

He has received national recognition for his directing and for his work as an artistic leader. The New Yorker celebrated his leadership of Chester Theatre Company, and he was honored with the Larry Murray award by the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association for his work at Chester.

From 2015-2022, Daniel served as the Producing Artistic Director of Chester Theatre Company, where he was previously Associate Artistic Director. During that time, he led this small professional theatre on the edge of the Berkshires to greater national recognition while doubling the size of its annual budget.

His productions have received numerous awards across the country and are regularly featured among the best of the year. His stage adaptations are published by Samuel French and Playscripts, and receive frequent productions.

Daniel holds an MFA in directing from Yale School of Drama, where he was the Artistic Director of both the Yale Cabaret and the Yale Summer Cabaret.

He currently chairs the Theatre Department at Smith College, where he is the Grace Jarcho Ross 1933 Professor of Humanities.
